The weather was beautiful earlier in the week. The first 2 or 3 butterfly species at the Barn were logged up. I think the very first was the Orange Tip. I actually got the photo about a mile away when doing a recce for my BTO breeding bird survey square. The Orange Tips are flying at the edge of the wood and along the bottom of the garden.
So I have learnt that the male has the colored wings and the female is lacks the orange tips - I think that this the female but it could be another species of white butterfly. I am not about to start catching the things to look at the underside of the wings and so on.

The male butterfly will patrol the edge of a wood and while the female frequent meadows. A very lovely addition to the life of the garden,
